ILION, N.Y. – A 101st district Republican candidate and current Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney secured a major endorsement Wednesday from the workers union at Remington Arms.

United Mine Workers of America claims to represent over 1,000 workers at the Remington Arms plant in Ilion. Union representatives say they support Tenney because of her opposition to microstamping legislation. The union says the process, which stamps a serial number on spent shell casings, could cost the plant jobs.

Tenney says the endorsement is important to her mostly for her personal connection to the plant.

"I've worked with, not only with Rusty, but many be from UMWA over the years as my prior role for the staff person for Assemblyman Dave Townsend who was also a strong advocate against microstamping," Tenney said.

Tenney's primary opponent Brian Maher has also defended Remington Arms in the microstamping debate.
