UNITED STATES -- Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the moon, passed away Saturday after complications from heart surgery. Armstrong was 82.

Back in 1969, the world's attention was focused on Armstrong as he made history by stepping of the lunar module and onto the moon, as he said the famous words, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

In recent years, Armstrong stayed mostly out of the public view, living with his wife in Ohio.
