NATIONWIDE -- Tropical Storm Isaac is gaining strength as it heads toward the Gulf Coast on Tuesday morning.

Forecasters said the storm could intensify to a Category Two hurricane, with winds of about one hundred miles per hour by Wednesday morning. People in New Orleans are preparing for the worst, knowing the kind of destruction that kind of storm can bring.

"We are not expecting a Katrina-like event. That is breaking the levees with that kind of flooding in the city. A category one and category two storm can bring significant damage in terms of wind, water, and electric, and a lot of loss of life comes from people being careless and not paying attention," said New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

As Isaac heads toward the Gulf Coast, hurricane warnings are in place across a 280 mile area from southeast Louisiana to the Florida-Alabama state line.

People in low lying areas along the coast have been told to evacuate.
