TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The start of the new school year comes with some good news for the Owego-Apalachin School District.
Tuesday, administrators learned that FEMA has agreed to fund the replacement of not just the Owego Elementary School, but also for O-A's administration building, its maintenance facility and its maintenance storage facility.
Last year's floods damaged multiple buildings, as well as the school's athletic fields.
Owego Elementary School students are still at Linnaeus West Elementary School in Endicott after their building was deemed a total loss.
The new school could be ready in the fall of 2014. It's expected to be built at the same site, but elevated to get it out of the flood plain.
