WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. -- The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Nelson Development Group were joined with local dignitaries for the official groundbreaking ceremony on the new Village Waterworks project on Friday.
The $3.45 million project will consist of loft-style living spaces, 12 townhouse-style condos, a gallery space, boat facilities, event areas, and more. The Village Waterworks site is located on the southwestern end of Seneca Lake. According to the developer, the project will offer high end lakefront housing to the area, and the jobs created by the project will stay local.
"We'll be hiring all local contractors and labor. We'll have the art gallery, the marinas. Our new residents will be higher income, so they'll support the commerce and town," explained Bruce Nelson, Nelson Development Group.
Nelson said people will be able to move in to the townhouses next year, and that the entire project will be completed by 2014.
