ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell University is ending a clothing deal with Adidas following questions surrounding the treatment of the workers in their factories overseas. Cornell's President David Skorton wrote a letter to the company on Friday detailing his concern over severance issues at a factory in Indonesia.
It was reported that nearly 3,000 workers were left without $3 million of severance pay when the factory in Indonesia closed in 2011. Skorton said that he would be happy to begin working with the company again if those issues were addressed.
Adidas has said that severance was the factory owner's responsibility and that they have provided humanitarian aid and job placement assistance to hundreds of the former workers.
