ITHACA, N.Y. -- A fight over public land may be decided by the Ithaca Common Council Wednesday night. Officials are scheduled to vote on a resolution to sell the current Community Gardens land to a developer.
The two-acre plot near Cayuga Lake, where the gardens now sit, is adjacent to an eight acre property currently owned by developers. They hold an option on the plot and say they want the additional land or they won't go through with the project.
Community members have petitioned the city to allow the gardens to stay, but the property owners say the new development will boost the city's economy.
The developers have declined to offer specifics on what they plan to build.
The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. at city hall, however, the public will not be allowed to comment at the meeting.
