SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse community comes together for lunch to raise awareness about hunger throughout Onondaga County.

The event, called Empty Bowls, was held at the Syracuse University Warehouse Friday and was put on by the Interreligious Food Consortium.

Event-goers purchased ceramic bowls for $20, picked out a type of soup and bread, then enjoyed their lunch with others.

Organizers of the event say this fundraiser is important to people they help in the community.

Interreligious Food Consortium Executive Director Michele Jordan said, "Most of the people that we work with are part-time people who are working two or three part-time jobs, and when it comes to the end of the month, they struggle to make ends meet, and many times they're in lines at the food pantry or a soup kitchen."

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Interreligious Food Consortium.
