BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A small victory for hydrofracking advocates in the Southern Tier. A judge has invalidated the moratorium on natural gas drilling passed by the City of Binghamton last December.
The moratorium was passed without ever going through the County Department of Planning and Economic Development or being submitted to Binghamton's own planning commission. The lawsuit argued leaders were in violation of state laws by doing so and a judge agreed.
The legislation will now have to go back through those processes and eventually will need a supermajority in the city council in order to pass.
