CORNING, N.Y. -- Hundreds of people in the Southern Tier gathered for the Disability Awareness Walk in Corning on Saturday. Organizers said the event is designed to help individuals with disabilities to get jobs.

The second annual free event was held at Centennial Park in Corning. It also included about a dozen vendors, including Chemung ARC, and Sibling Support Workshops. Planners from Corning Incorporated got creative in order to get the message out.

"The main message really is to increase the awareness of disability. And we did that through yard signs that were posted throughout the walk, so people had an opportunity to learn more as they walked," explained Rite Pope, Disability Employment Awareness Month Co-chair.

The event is part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
