UTICA, N.Y. -- The Boilermaker Road Race draws runners from around the world to Utica every summer, but for deployed soldiers who couldn’t participate, a shadow run was organized in Afghanistan.
Soldiers from the Marines, Air Force, Navy and Army all took part. Now that many of them have returned home from their tour, The F.X. Matt Brewing Company and the Boilermaker organizers gave them the post race party they deserve, right at the Boilermaker Finish Line.
"They brought back the finish line banner from Afghanistan and we're going to get a picture with everyone who ran the race under the real finish line of the Boilermaker," said Tim Reed, Boilermaker Road Race Executive Director.
Soldiers, their families and friends all enjoyed live music, German food, and the brewery’s highly anticipated Saranac Pumpkin Ale and Octoberfest Beer.
