SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Many in the audience at Monday's discussion panels were SU students. They called the Dalai Lama's visit the opportunity of a lifetime.
Students and alumni we talked with say they were drawn to the event specifically to see and hear from the Tibetan spiritual leader. But some came away with a new perspective on world issues and on the Dalai Lama himself.
"It brought up some great points. It's about shifting the global consciousness and it really just starts from within yourself. So they were talking about different philosophies of how you can do that yourself," said SU Law School student Christina Ubaldo.
"The coolest thing for me was just being in the presence of those people and seeing that the Dalai Lama is a person and he was the funniest person up there," said SU alum Kristin Morris.
Chancellor Nancy Cantor says SU's commitment to partnerships built around social, educational and economic opportunities made it a good fit to host the symposium.
