ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca Commons has been reopened now that State Police say a suspicious package posed no threat.

The package was discovered outside the Bank of America Building shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.

Police responded to the scene, evacuating the area and nearby buildings as a precaution. Fire personnel and other backup were called in as well, but they were able to take an x-ray and see that there was nothing harmful inside the package.

The commons was reopened and residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
