SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- An old Syracuse fire barn has gotten new life. After being closed for nearly 40 years, the former Elmwood Fire Station is open for business.

The building was completely renovated and will now house additional offices for the Parks and Recreation Department and a graduate research center for SUNY ESF. It will also be the meeting place for the Greater Strathmore Neighborhood Association and the Onondaga Park Association.

There's not much inside, but a special gift will soon change that.

"Onondaga Park Association presented us with a $25,000 check so we can furnish the building. As you can see, we're in an empty building. A renovated building looks nice, but we need workable furniture. So it's a great partnership, great donation to the city," said Syracuse Parks and Recreation Commissioner Baye Muhammad.

Muhammad said it costs a little more than a million dollars to renovate the facility.
