SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse International Film Festival is back for its ninth year.
All weekend long, events are being held at the Palace Theatre and other locations throughout the city. Thursday was the grand opening.
Dozens of local and international films will be featured, including a whole showcase on social justice at Le Moyne College on Saturday.
Organizers say the theme of this year's event is peace and social justice. It's being dedicated to SU film student Bassel Al Shahade, who was killed in his native Syria while documenting the violence there.
