SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A man is in critical condition after he was stabbed at the Downtown YMCA in Syracuse.

According to investigators, it happened on the residential floor at the building on Montgomery Street around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

They say someone made their way into the room of 41-year-old Matthew Jefski and stabbed him in the neck.

"We do have several leads in the case right now. It appears that someone entered his room and attacked him, even possibly from behind, and sliced his throat, while he was in his room," said Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan.

Jefski was taken to Upstate University Hospital for emergency surgery.

He's listed in critical, but stable condition.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 315-442-5222.
