THERESA, N.Y. -- One person is dead and another airlifted to a Syracuse hospital following a two car crash in Jefferson County. It happened in the Town of Theresa on Route 37 at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

Deputies say Mark Hujar, 46, of Hammond was driving north when he attempted to pass an uninvolved vehicle. While trying to pass that vehicle, Hujar's pickup truck hit a car, driven by Michael Horman, head-on.

Horman was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital. His passenger, Robin Broughan, 53, of Redwood was taken to Samaritan Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Hujar was ticketed for unsafe passing and failure to keep right.
