CORNING, N.Y. -- One Southern Tier animal shelter that recently broke ground is getting off to a quick start. Tanners PAWS in Corning adopted four dogs from New York City that were about to be put down.

One of the dogs had already found a new home. The shelter isn't complete, but the three new remaining canines are currently in foster care. All three have kennel cough and need to be given antibiotics. They also need to be kept away from other dogs. The group found out about the dogs online.

"This page posts these dogs every night between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., dogs that are going to be killed the next day. So when we heard about it, we said you know what, we're going to do something about this, and we're going to save as many of them as we can," explained Christie Speciale, Founder of Tanners PAWS.
