NEW YORK STATE -- Voters in the new 22nd Congressional District are preparing to make their decision next week on who their representative in Congress will be. The race pits republican incumbent Richard Hanna against democrat challenger Dan Lamb, a former aide to long time congressman Maurice Hinchey.

Lamb says, as he travels the district, three key issues have emerged. One deals with the future of social security and Medicare. He claims Hanna, by supporting the Paul Ryan budget, has opted to back a plan that would eventually turn Medicare into a voucher system. A move that he says would cost seniors benefits. He also says there is intense interest in the search for a turnaround for the economy. But more and more, he says, district residents are concerned about proposed hydrofracking for natural has.

"People are concerned about their property values. Concerned about the quality of their drinking water and the impacts that reckless gas drilling could have in this region. And they want to have somebody in office who can speak to this issue from top to bottom," Lamb said.

YNN had offered an opportunity for a debate for the candidates in the 22nd District. Lamb agreed. Congressman Hanna declined.
