NEW YORK -- New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says steady progress is being made to get the city back on its feet.
Bloomberg said mass transit and electricity are the top two priorities. He said the MTA has done a phenomenal job getting subway service partially restored in just a few days and that their quick actions have been benefited the state a great deal.
"If MTA had not shut down the subways, buses and closed the tunnels, the recovery period would have been much longer and much more costly," said Mayor Bloomberg. "It goes to show if you take precautions you can benefit from them."
Bloomberg said it will take longer to restore power to parts of the city served by overhead power lines.
