NEW YORK -- Governor Andrew Cuomo says New Yorkers are showing strength, resilience and compassion in the aftermath of Sandy.

Cuomo, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, and other state and local officials held a briefing Thursday after touring Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, which is just one of the many tunnels in the city still flooded.

Cuomo said fares on all mass transit will be suspended both Thursday and Friday.

Cuomo said, "As massive an undertaking as the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel is, you have to times that by 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 times. Right? You have the Holland Tunnel, you have the Midtown Tunnel, you have subway tunnels that are still flooded."

The governor adding that FEMA is bringing in 100 million meals to New Yorkers. He also enforced the state's need for 100 percent reimbursement from federal government for damage and recovery costs from Sandy.
