DELHI, N.Y. -- The former owner of a Delhi animal hospice has been banned from having any animals for six months. It's a condition set by the judge who will decide whether or not to dismiss more than 20 counts of animal cruelty against Susan Marino.

Marino operated Angel's Gate which took in critically or terminally ill animals and has even been featured on national television shows. She is accused of not properly treating the animals and denying them shelter and water in 2010.

The charges followed an investigation by PETA.

Marino eventually shut down her shelter in September of last year after the state Attorney General's office filed suit against her, claiming she accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations, but persistently failed to file financial reports.

Marino said her bookkeeper was finishing those financial reports and while she's said in the past she's made mistakes with animals, she denies any cruelty.

In court this week, on top of the animal ban, the judge told Marino to get a job or go back to college.
