SAN DIEGO - Fighting against windy conditions and the No. 20 team in the country, the No. 9 Syracuse men's basketball team opened its season with a 62-49 win over San Diego State in the Battle on the Midway on Sunday.

Syracuse used a 17-2 run to take a 17-4 lead and never looked back. C.J. Fair led the Orange with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Michael Carter-Williams also scored 17 and racked up five steals, four assists, and four rebounds, and Brandon Triche added 15 points, four assists, three steals, and three rebounds.

Next up for Syracuse is a return to normalcy with its home-opener this coming Sunday against Wagner.
