CENTRAL NEW YORK -- The Hofmann Sausage Company has made a large contribution to Central New York charities.

Hoffman's founder and vice chairman personally delivered 48,000 hot dogs to the Food Bank of Central New York and the Rescue Mission of Syracuse Wednesday.

The Rescue Mission CEO says that a donation of this size will feed thousands in the area. He also says the donations could not have come at a better time, as the busy holiday season arrives.

"Every day, we are serving over 700 meals to those in need and those who are hungry and homeless in this community and so when we receive a donation of this size, 24,000 hotdogs, that is going to ensure that thousands of meals are provided to those who are hungry and homeless," said Rescue Mission CEO Alan Thornton.

Hofmann has been in the Central New York community since 1879.
