SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A local nonprofit organization is getting recognition for its leadership in the Syracuse community. The Northside Urban Partnership was awarded an $85,000 grant from the Central New York Community Foundation during a breakfast event.

The Collaborative Impact Prize will be used to launch the Incubating Northside Culture project. This project will help entrepreneurs start up small businesses on Syracuse's north side by giving them support, education and lending assistance.

Project leaders say this will help the development of the neighborhood.

"The beauty of the north side is that the economic revitalization there, the storefronts and everything else. It's going to be a mixture of the old world, you know all the old Italian and German businesses and then this new world," said Dominic Robinson, Director of Northside Urban Partnership.

Northside Urban Partnership expects 12 businesses to open in the area within the program's first year.
