SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- More than 60 children have a new place to call home. The National Adoption Day celebration in Syracuse was held at the Oncenter Friday morning.

The ringing of bells was heard throughout the building as judges signed the papers officially welcoming the kids to their new families. After the adoptions were made official, the families got their first family picture taken by a local photographer.

One family who officially adopted their son during the event says it was a great celebration.

"The experiences are a little bit different for each family, but we've all been through the process and the waiting and the anxiousness and the hoping and now it's a joyous occasion for all of us here. So it makes it very special to be a part of this today," said Jennifer Reid, Mattydale resident.

Nearly 40,000 kids have been adopted across the country on National Adoption Day since it started in 2000.
