MANNSVILLE, N.Y. -- Talks about dissolution are just beginning in Mannsville.

The first public hearing was held Monday night for neighbors to get their questions answered and see the proposal first hand.

Leaders are considering dissolving the village into the town of Ellisburg. It would mean as much as a 50 percent savings on property taxes. However, neighbors have their reservations. One of the issues is the loss of jobs for many of the village officials, including the mayor.

“We would lose our street laborer, our village clerk, the board and my position would be gone, which I would say the street laborer and the clerk would be more of a loss than the actual board,” Mayor Lori Cashel.

Another meeting will be held on January 10th to discuss other possibilities, but the decision is solely up to the voters come March.
