ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Dozens of students put their heads together Tuesday in an attempt to solve big issues that affect them.

Chemung County high school students participated in the sixth annual YWCA Youth Summit. They identified, discussed and came up with solutions for issues that impact their generation.

The students broke into groups and talked about everything from teen pregnancy to bullying and suicide. For many, it was an opportunity to be heard.

"It does effect the older people but not as much as it will affect us and our future because we are the next generation of Elmira and if we don't have what we need, how are we going to be able to continue on with this town that's been around for so long," said Hunter Hansen, junior at Southside High School.

Some local lawmakers made time in their day to attend the event.
