Retailer owes damages in fake cigarette case
BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Broome County business owes thousands of dollars to a tobacco company. A federal judge ordered North Fast Food, Incorporated to pay $8,000 in damages to Lorillard Tobacco.
According to Lorillard, Crown Chicken in Endicott sold six packs of knockoff cigarettes to a sales representative last year. North Fast Food eventually dropped its defense.
Lorillard was seeking $80,000, but the judge ruled that amount was excessive. He said it was a one-time, unintentional purchase of fake cartons by North Fast Food.
