Gift drive for soldiers

BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- As you do your holiday shopping, you may want to take some time to acknowledge the men and women fighting overseas. Students and faculty at Broome Community College have organized the fourth annual gift drive.

Donated goods will not only go to troops from the region, but specifically those serving in combat zones. They're looking for items that soldiers can easily carry with them on the front lines. Items like AA batteries, trail mix, hand warmers, baby wipes, beef jerky or granola bars. They hope to collect more than three thousand pounds of donated goods.

"People say 'eh, a thousand pounds?' there's other organizations that have shipped more than we have. But when you think of a slim Jim, beef jerky and hand warmers, that's a lot of stuff that has gone over there," said Wes Warren, BCC Chair of Criminal Justice and Homeland Security Departments.

Items can be dropped off any time from November 26th through December 7th in room B-104 of the BCC office building, which is located behind the science building in the student services area.
