"Small Business Saturday" falls short
Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is Small Business Saturday, an initiative to help local businesses owners cash in on the sales. As our Katie Gibas reports, sales fell short for many Syracuse store owners.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Amanda Gold owns three clothing stores in Syracuse's Armory Square. She says the Small Business Saturday initiative is a huge boost to her bottom line.
"We put the sticker in our window saying we accept it and that it's small business Saturday. We did a Flash Sale Saturday morning for two hours. But the advertising is all done for us. We don't have to do anything, so it's great for us," said Amanda Gold, the owner of Jet Black, Bounce and Frankie & Faye.
The idea started in 2010 by American Express. The goal is to help local business owners cash in on the holiday sales rush of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. American Express also allows card holders to register their cards and get credits for purchases.
Even though some of the business owners here in downtown Syracuse say on Saturday their sales were actually pretty good, most of the business owners we spoke with say they're disappointed by the lack of turnout.
"It actually didn't go as well as we hoped this year. We did still get business, but it just didn't seem like we had the traffic that we've had in past years," said Jennifer Hartlieb, Joette's Store Manager.
Gold said, "All three stores did really well. Friday is always a big day. We thought Saturday might be bigger. They were about even."
Business owners who saw a decrease say they're not entirely sure why. They say it could be the economy, difficulty finding parking and less promotion of Small Business Saturday.
"Last year, I felt like it was more of a buzz and people were talking about it. This year, I didn't really see the advertising like I did last year," said Hartlieb.
Now that the official start to holiday shopping is here, business owners hope more people will stop by downtown to buy local.
