BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- It’s the battle of the updo. Hair dressers and models in Binghamton strutted their stuff for a good cause Sunday.

The Southern Tier AIDS Program hosted its second annual World AIDS Day event.

HAIR WARZ is a fantasy hair contest. This year’s event featured 17 local salons competing to create the most fabulous and over-the-top hair. Judges also took into consideration makeup and theme.

In the end, David Scott Salon’s styling came out on top.

All proceeds from HAIR WARZ will benefit the Southern Tier AIDS Program.

Organizers say all of the salons are a huge part in the fundraising effort and not just because of their creations.

"Every salon makes sure people come in to the salons, they're selling tickets, they're telling people about the event. So they're really the ones that make it the success that it is, so absolutely, they're the drivers," said John Barry, Southern Tier AIDS Program Executive Director.

Barry says he expects the event to raise nearly $8,000.
