NEW YORK -- Anti-smoking advocates say New York needs to do more to keep people from smoking. A new report from some health advocacy groups claims the state ranks 21st in funding tobacco prevention programs.

New York spends around $41 million a year on such programs. The American Cancer Society says that's far from enough. Leaders say that money is only 16 percent of what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends.

Anti-tobacco programs in New York have been scaled back after a series of tough state budgets.
