GREENE, N.Y. -- A woman has been charged with arson in connection with a fire that killed 33 dogs.

State Police say Michele Keech, 62, set fire to the basement of her home on State Route 206 in Greene Monday morning. The fire caused extensive damage to the structure and killed the animals inside.

Police found Keech despondent when they arrived. There is still no word on a motive, but Keech has been charged with felony counts of arson and aggravated cruelty to animals.
