CORNING, N.Y. -- An international forensics expert and renowned author from Corning is facing charges after investigators say he took inappropriate pictures of a young girl.

Herbert MacDonell, 84, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Troopers were alerted after someone called the New York State Child Abuse Hotline. Police then searched MacDonnel's home. He was arrested after authorities say they found inappropriate pictures of an 11-year-old girl.

MacDonell was issued an appearance ticket and will be back in court at the end of December.
