CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The man accused of killing a former Sherburne-Earlville principal has pleaded not guilty.

Anthony Taglianetti arrived in Chautauqua County Tuesday after fighting his return from Virginia for several months. He faces a second degree murder charge in the shooting death of Clymer Superintendent Keith Reed.

The prosecution and defense both agree this is becoming a very difficult case.

"It's tragic. Not only is it a murder in a small town, but it's the nature of this murder which is unsettling," said Chautauqua County District Attorney David Foley.

"We are not a big county and one of the things you're going to find is that there has been so much pre-trial publicity that it might be difficult to pick a jury," said Chautauqua County Public Defender Nathaniel Barone.

Bail was set at $2.5 million or $5 million bond.

Taglianetti is scheduled to appear in court later next month.
