BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Wednesday was the final meeting of 2012 for the Binghamton City Council.

This year was the first in the new term for the board's seven members. It was also the first time in four years that republicans held seats on council.

Lawmakers say they think it was a successful first year working together and are looking forward to continuing to serve Binghamton residents in 2013.

"We want to tackle quality of life issues, certainly the rise in crime in our neighborhoods, and we want to make this city, not only great for the residents, but for people who want to locate here with their businesses and that's going to be a top priority, making it as business-friendly as possible," said Binghamton City Councilor Chris Papastrat.

The City Council resumes its meetings on Wednesday, January 9th.
