UTICA, N.Y. -- At least three people were forced out of their Utica home Friday afternoon, after a fire that caused the roof to collapse.

The fire on Faxton Street started around 1:30 p.m. Everyone living in the house was able to get out safely.

But, crews say the fire was so hot when they got there, their focus had to be on protecting the neighboring houses.

"Fire had extended... we couldn't risk people. For what we would have been able to gain, it wasn't worth putting people at risk," Utica Fire Chief Russell Brooks said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
