SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Paige's Butterfly Run has been raising money to fight childhood cancer for 16 years. It was started when first grader Paige Yeomans Arnold died of Leukemia a year after she was diagnosed.

Monday, her parents presented the proceeds from the run to the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. This year, they raised $220,000. That's $50,000 more than last year and their largest donation to date.

The money funds pediatric cancer research and providing special services for children treated at the center.

"It's great that we're able to do this. I have nothing against organizations that raise money nationally, but this is a very personal thing for us to be able to do this in Paige's memory. To help patients and families here in Central New York and the surrounding 17 counties the hospital serves," said Chris Arnold, Paige’s father.

Paige’s Butterfly Run has been held since 1996 and has raised more than $1.5 million.
