BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- After a heated race and a big win back in November, Broome County Executive Debbie Preston took the oath of office at the Forum Theater in Binghamton.

Preston says she’s excited to start her first full term in office and says there's a lot of work to be done. She says she wants to focus on opening up the Airport Corridor, continue saving the county money, as well as tackle any infrastructure and public transportation issues, like ordering more buses.

Regarding hydrofracking, Preston says it’s a decision that will come from the governor and DEC, but one local leaders will have to evaluate when the time comes, because the debate has impacted many communities.

Preston said, “This has been a hard issue. It has split families, friends and I hope there’s going to be some common ground when and if they decide to, all when the regulations come out. I believe if approved we’ll have the strictness restrictions in the county.”

Preston says within the next two weeks the county will be opening a New Energy Development Office, aimed to look many ways to save on energy consumption.
