NEW YORK -- The state Attorney General's office is outlining funds raised for charities in response to Hurricane Sandy.
The AG's office says, to date, about $400 million has been raised. The Attorney General's Charities Bureau requested information about how much money each charity raised, how they plan to spend the money, services and grants provided, and how the charities plan to use any surplus funds. 88 charities responded to the request.
Taking a look at the five charities that raised the most, the American Red Cross raised $188 million, the Robin Hood Foundation raised $67 million, the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City raised $45 million, the Empire State Relief Fund raised $15.4 million, and the Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory raised $14.3 million.
