CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Firefighters in Cortland respond to another call at a home that caught fire just before Christmas. Crews responded to 16 Harrington Avenue around 9:15 Thursday night.

They arrived to find flames and heavy smoke coming from the third floor. One person had been inside and was able to get out safely.

This is the same home crews responded to the night of December 22nd. That fire, which investigators believe was electrical in nature, caused severe damage to the second floor.

They determined it wasn't safe for anyone to live there, but the building could have been repaired. Officials say one person went back and was living in the home again. They say that person was using the fireplace for heat, and it hadn't been maintained properly, which sparked the fire.

Because of the new damage, fire officials say the home likely cannot be saved anymore.
