SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It appears as though the Syracuse football program has changed hands.

According to CBS Sports and other news outlets, SU plans to name defensive coordinator Scott Shafer as its new head coach.

Shafer came to the Orange with Doug Marrone four years ago. He has more than 20 years of college coaching experience but never as a head coach.

The formal announcement is expected to come this Sunday.
