ILION, N.Y. -- Add Senator Charles Schumer to the list of politicians weighing in on the future of the Remington Arms plant in Ilion.
The plant has been both criticized and defended after a Bushmaster model produced there was used in the Sandy Hook shootings. They've even had investors pull funding, citing moral obligations since the incident.
Senator Schumer says he fully supports Remington. He says civilian use of the guns is a separate issue, but he wants to keep military production up at the plant.
“Remington supplies our military with great, great arms and I have worked hard to get them contracts and get them jobs, from the military and from law enforcement, and I'll keep doing it,” Schumer said.
Remington has not made any comment about the use of the Bushmaster at Sandy Hook or any criticism since.
