ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Jamesville-DeWitt community brings back a popular childhood game to help raise money for their school district.

More than 300 J-D High Schoolers teamed up with the Grounds for Action Coalition in a dodge ball tournament on Saturday. Their goal was to raise enough money to get a new track and turf field.

J-D is one of only a few schools in Central New York that does not have a turf field, making it difficult to use their current field year round.

The goal is to host a number of student events to reach $1.6 million by April 21st of this year and have a new athletic facility completed by the fall.

"We also want the students to know that this is about them and it's going to be fun and we're going to do fun events for them to raise awareness and also bring in more money," said fundraiser co-chair Jodi Schwedes.

The dodge ball tournament is one of six events being held to raise money for the turf and track campaign.
