SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Last week we introduced you to a woman battling and bringing awareness to a rare form of breast cancer. Renee Dillon has an advanced stage of inflammatory breast cancer that has spread to her spine. Her friends and family will host a benefit in her honor. The money raised will help Dillon with her medical expenses.

In the process of contacting local businesses for donations, she came across Animal Kingdom. Laura Bartholemew, who runs it, agreed to donate a basket.
Her daughter, 16-year-old Lindsay Bartholemew, had already planned to donate her birthday money to a cancer organization because of personal connections to the disease. The 16-year-old felt compelled, instead, to donate to Dillon after hearing her story.

Dillon said whatever Bartholemew donates will be matched, and that portion of the day's proceeds will go to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston to research this rare form of cancer.

Dillon said, "We get the call back and we were so grateful for the basket, and when we heard that news we were just, like, overwhelmed, because it's not something you generally hear from a young girl of 16. To be that selfless, that mature and generous."

If you'd like to attend the benefit, it's Sunday, January 20 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the American Legion in Cicero. Tickets are $10 in advance.

To make a donation in Lindsay Bartholemew's name, send donations to:
