SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It's a Martin Luther King Day tradition in Syracuse that helps people in need every year.

The Greater Syracuse Labor Council and the Central New York United Way held its annual "Day of Service" drive Monday morning.

Volunteers collected donations ranging from coats and hats to non-perishable food items. The donations were delivered to numerous human service agencies and given to the less fortunate.

Clothing and Food Drive Coordinator Helen Hudson said, "Once we get the donations and deliver them, it's amazing when you take them to the facilities. They greet you and the comments I hear are, oh my God, it's Christmas again. So, if that says it in one word, it's Christmas again, so it's great."

Hudson said about 100 volunteers helped make the event possible. She said support from the community makes the drive successful every year.
