OWEGO, N.Y. -- Hundreds of people gathered in Owego Tuesday evening to remember Captain Porcari at a candlelight vigil.

The Owego Fire Department as well as members from departments across the Southern Tier were on hand to pay their respects. A wreath and photos were placed at the Fireman's Fountain as a memorial to the fallen firefighter.

First responders on hand say the tragedy doesn't just effect Owego, but all those involved in emergency response.

"When something happens, good or bad, we celebrate it or we mourn it together, whether it's one fire department or many. Generally speaking, when something happens in one department, it's a ripple effect and everyone in the fire service and the EMS service and the police service feels it as a whole," said Southside Fire Station's 2nd Assistant Chief Dave Radigan.

Funeral arrangements for Porcari have yet to be made.
