SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. -- The next time you buy groceries, you could help feed a hungry person in the Southern Tier. The Food Bank of the Southern Tier is kicking off its 2013 Check Out Hunger campaign.

Participating grocery stores include Tops Friendly Markets, Wegmans and Jubilee Foods.

When you reach the checkout counter, you can choose to make donations in the amount of $2, $3, or $5. Or you can also simply round up your bill to the next whole number. One hundred percent of the donations stay in the Southern Tier to help fight hunger.

"The need continues to grow, we are seeing more people coming to us to the first time, just having a difficult time trying to make ends meet, and the one flexible area in their budget is the amount they spend on food and that's not a choice than anyone should have to be faced with," said Missy Goetschius, Food Bank of ST Community & Public Relations Manager.

The fundraising campaign runs through March 2nd.
