BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A Binghamton woman is accused of hitting a sheriff's office vehicle while she was driving drunk with her child in the car. It happened around 2:30 Saturday morning on Prospect Street.

Investigators say a deputy was stopped with another vehicle with his emergency lights on when his car was hit from behind by Lauren Smith, 24. No one was hurt in the crash, but deputies say Smith's one-year-old child was in the back seat and was not properly fastened in a child safety seat.

According to investigators, Smith had a blood alcohol level that was .18% or higher, more than twice the legal limit.

Smith now faces several charges, including aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law and endangering the welfare of a child.
